Balcarres Estate, East Neuk of Fife
Tuesday 20th May 2025
The GAFAS Spring Outing was to Balcarres Estate in the East Neuk of Fife, the private family home of the Lindsay family. This was a superb opportunity to explore an important Renaissance art collection amassed throughout the 19th century and not usually open to the public. Additionally, both the Earl and Countess of Crawford and Balcarres kindly agreed to personally guide us through it.
The gardens and landscaped park, with spectacular views over the Firth of Forth, are also important and the day included a guided tour by the Head Gardener: for further info on the gardens, see Designed Landscape: http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/GDL00036
Numbers were divided into two groups, with one group touring the house whilst the other tour the garden and vice versa. Coach transport, morning tea/coffee, soup & sandwich lunch, entry, guided tours and gratuities are all included in the cost of £70 per head meaning the only other costs are optional lunchtime tea/coffee or drinks.
